Our Services
Primary Care
Many people work hard to keep themselves and their family healthy. In addition to regular visits to a general physician and the dentist, make sure you schedule regular appointments with an optometrist, like Dr. Deschamp in Minot, ND. Even if you don’t need glasses or contact lenses, you should be checked for early signs of eye disease, like cataracts and glaucoma, so you can be diagnosed and treated before vision loss starts. It is also helpful to have an optometrist you are comfortable with who knows your medical history in the event of an eye emergency.
Comprehensive
Eye Exams
Protect your family’s eye health by scheduling regular comprehensive eye exams. Anyone with a family history of eye disease or who needs vision correction should get eye examinations once a year. Those who don’t need glasses or contacts can schedule exams every other year. Dr. Deschamp’s Practice checks every patient’s eyes for early signs of eye disease (like glaucoma or cataracts) to provide treatment before problems start. Dr. Deschamp also helps patients who need vision correction get the best prescription for their glasses or contact lenses.
Contact Lens Exams
At Dr. Deschamp’s Practice, we help patients in the Minot area who want to correct their vision with contact lenses instead of (or in addition to) glasses. After a comprehensive eye examination, Dr. Deschamp will determine the correct prescription. Then, he will help you select the right options for the most comfortable fit, including different brands, modalities, and types. If you’re new to wearing contact lenses, Dr. Deschamp can teach you how to put in and remove your new lenses plus care tips.
Cataracts
Cataracts are an eye disease that typically affects adults over 40 years old, but all adults should get regular eye exams to check for cataracts and other eye diseases, which often don’t have early symptoms. During comprehensive eye examinations at Dr. Deschamp’s Practice, patients are checked for early signs of cataracts so they can be diagnosed and treated before vision loss starts.
Dry Eye
Treatments
Many people struggle with chronic dry eyes that cause red and irritated eyes, eye fatigue, blurry vision, and itchy or burning eyes. There are many causes behind dry eye syndrome, so Dr. Deschamp will perform a comprehensive eye exam to determine the source of the problem. Once the cause is identified, Dr. Deschamp will create a custom treatment plan to provide relief.
Eye Emergencies
In the event of trauma to your eye (chemical splash, foreign object stuck in the eye, a scratch, or other problem), you should contact Dr. Deschamp’s Practice right away for an emergency appointment. If the eye is swollen, you have a loss or change in vision, or you see flashing lights, it’s important to get professional help from an optometrist to prevent further damage to your eyes. Pink eye or other eye infections can also be treated by Dr. Deschamp. His experience in eye care allows him to quickly diagnose and treat many optical problems.
Geriatric Eye Care
Your eye health is important at every age, but once you are over 65 years old, you are at higher risk for many eye diseases, like cataracts and glaucoma, as well as age-related macular degeneration. Many of these eye diseases don’t have obvious early symptoms, so without regular eye exams, you may not know you have a problem until your vision is diminished. Dr. Deschamp’s Practice offers geriatric eye care, which includes regular eye exams to detect problems before they affect your vision. Early diagnosis often leads to more treatment options and helps you avoid irreversible vision loss.
Glaucoma
Like cataracts, the risk of glaucoma increases after the age of 40. Also, like cataracts, glaucoma has few early symptoms, so it’s important to get regular eye exams to diagnose and treat glaucoma before vision loss starts. Glaucoma causes pressure on the optic nerve and can lead to blindness without treatment. During regular eye exams at Dr. Deschamp’s Practice, patients are checked for early signs of glaucoma.
LASIK
If you have vision problems, you may be excited about the idea of LASIK laser eye surgery so you don’t have to wear glasses or contact lenses. While LASIK can help many people with myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism, Dr. Deschamp can help you decide if you are a good candidate and what you can expect, both during the process and after LASIK.
Sports Vision Training
If you want to improve your athletic performance, Dr. Deschamp’s Practice offers sports vision training. After a comprehensive eye exam, including vision tests, Dr. Deschamp will create a personalized program of exercises in vision training to increase reaction time, improve hand-eye coordination, widen peripheral vision, and more to enhance your skills in your preferred sport.
