Our Services

Comprehensive
Eye Exams

In addition to updating the prescription of your glasses or contacts, a comprehensive eye exam checks for early signs of eye disease. At Dr. Eggert’s Practice, modern diagnostic tools, like OCT eye scans, are used to monitor small changes in the health of your eyes over time, which helps Dr. Eggert detect problems, including cataracts and glaucoma, in the early stages. Anyone who needs vision correction or has a family history of eye disease should get an eye exam at least once a year. Everyone else should schedule an eye exam once every two years.

Contact Lens
Exams

Many people prefer using contact lenses to correct their vision over wearing glasses. At Dr. Eggert’s Practice, optomap retinal imaging is used to assess your vision and eye to determine the type, fit, brand, and modality of contact lens that will give you a comfortable fit and clear sight. For first time contact lens wearers, Dr. Eggert will explain how to put the lenses in, how to take them out, and how to care for your new contact lenses.

LASIK

LASIK laser eye surgery can improve refractive vision problems for patients who are tired of wearing glasses and contact lenses. LASIK can be used to treat hyperopia (farsightedness), myopia (nearsightedness), and astigmatism. For adults in Manitowoc, Dr. Eggert can help determine if you are a good candidate for LASIK and explain what to expect before, during, and after the procedure.

Pediatric Eye Care

Before your child can communicate, it can be difficult to tell if their vision is developing normally or if they are having trouble. At Dr. Eggert’s Practice, we recommend every child get their first eye exam around six months old to assess their early eye development. Follow-up exams should be scheduled around age two to three years old and then regular eye exams should be given to school-age children to check their vision.

Primary Care

Many eye diseases don’t have early symptoms, which is why all adults should schedule regular eye exams to check their ocular health. It is also helpful to have an optometrist you trust who already knows your history if you have an eye emergency in your family, like pink eye or a scratched cornea. Even if you don’t need glasses or contact lenses, you need to be proactive with your eye health and schedule regular visits with an optometrist.

Eye Emergencies

Red eyes can be a symptom of a larger problem, such as an infection, a scratch, or a foreign object in the eye. It’s important to schedule an appointment with an optometrist right away to determine the cause of red eyes and get treatment. You should also schedule an emergency appointment at Dr. Eggert’s Practice if you have symptoms of pink eye (a crusty discharge, teary eyes, a gritty or itchy feeling in your eye, and light sensitivity).

Dry Eye Treatment

Chronic dry eye can be an uncomfortable or painful condition. There are many reasons why the tear ducts are not producing enough moisture, so Dr. Eggert will determine the cause of your dry eye before recommending a personalized treatment course. Dry eye treatment may include medication, drops, or a procedure to alleviate discomfort and avoid long-term vision problems.

Cataracts

Cataracts cause a clouding in the eye lens, which leads to blurry vision. However, regular eye exams at Dr. Eggert’s Practice for all adults include screening for cataracts so they can be diagnosed and treated before vision impairment. Patients over 40 years old and those with a family history of cataracts should schedule annual eye examinations to ensure eye diseases like cataracts are found early.

Glaucoma

At Dr. Eggert’s Practice, patients are checked for glaucoma during routine eye exams. Glaucoma causes pressure to build up in the eye, but most people don’t have symptoms in the early stages and only visit an optometrist when they develop vision loss. Glaucoma is more common in patients over 40, but all adults should schedule regular eye exams to check for eye disease before they have problems.
