Our Services

Comprehensive
Eye Exams

Routine eye exams check a patient’s visual acuity and look for early signs of eye disease. Anyone with a family history of eye disease should schedule an eye exam 1-2 times a year. Everyone else should get a comprehensive eye examination at least every two years.

Contact Lens
Exams

Contact lenses can be a great choice for patients who want to improve their vision without glasses. For both new contact lens wearers and those who have enjoyed them for years, Dr. Unger & Dr. Rexford will perform a thorough contact lens examination to determine your prescription, as well as the best type, brand, and modality to ensure a comfortable fit.

Geriatric Eye Care

The risk of many eye diseases increases with age, which is why adults over 65 years old should schedule an eye exam at least once a year. During the exam, Dr. Unger & Dr. Rexford will look for early symptoms of cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and more. Early diagnosis is key to increasing treatment options and preserving your visual health.

Primary Care

You should see your primary care physician once a year for a wellness check, your dentist twice a year for a cleaning, and your optometrist once a year for a routine eye exam. Even if you don’t have vision problems, an annual exam is important for all adults to assess their visual health and look for symptoms of eye disease. Eye diseases like cataracts and glaucoma don’t have symptoms until your vision is affected, so regular eye exams can preserve your sight.

Dry Eye
Treatments

When the tear glands aren’t creating enough moisture, the eyes become dry and uncomfortable, and might lead to impaired vision. Chronic dry eye can be treated to alleviate your discomfort and improve your vision. Let Dr. Unger or Dr. Rexford know if you have concerns about dry eyes during your exam so she can diagnose the condition and discuss a customized treatment plan.

Eye Emergencies

If you have an eye emergency, contact our office right away to schedule an appointment with Dr. Unger or Dr. Rexford. Some reasons you may need an emergency visit include eye injuries (scratches or a foreign object in the eye), a sudden change in vision, or symptoms of an eye infection (like pink eye). An emergency eye appointment may help save your long-term eye health.

Cataracts

When the lens of your eye gets cloudy from cataracts, it causes blurry vision. However, regular eye exams can help detect cataracts before symptoms like blurry vision appear. To increase your treatment options and decrease your chance of permanent vision loss, schedule an annual eye exam with us after you turn 40.

Glaucoma

By the time symptoms of glaucoma appear, there is already some permanent vision loss. To detect and treat glaucoma early, schedule an eye exam at least once a year after you turn 40. Using advanced diagnostic tools, Dr. Unger & Dr. Rexford can look for early signs of glaucoma and offer treatment options.
